Karate is a patient journey:
one step . . . one step. Each step, the view is new. No rush, no race: you have your own pace that is right for you. As in life, we go alone together. Discovering ourselves, we respect one another. |
Karate is a journey with no end. It is possible to train and learn for a lifetime (our youngest students are 5; our oldest is over 90). Punches, kicks, and kata are only the surface. Our body is an apparatus on which to build character and strengthen spirit.
The Japanese concept of beauty is “One thing. Try hard.” In the dojo, a plain, bare space with no clients, smartphones, demands, distractions, or deadlines—and, once class starts, no time to think about them—you can finally focus. The mood of the day, stresses and worries are washed away; the effort and breakthroughs of training fill your attention. From deep down, a new self rises to the challenge. What you will learn here, and be changed by forever, is that you are capable of so much more than you knew. It is a discovery that can come to your aid tomorrow or years from now, help you keep going through a long, hard project or a hard time. |
