Dojo Etiquette
Late to Class?
Class begins punctually. If you are late, please change quickly and then sit at the back of the dojo in seiza [kneeling] and mokuso [eyes closed in meditation] until the instructor invites you to join class.
Dojo Fees
Due at the first of every month.
- Please remove your shoes before entering the dojo.
- Please arrive 10 minutes before class.
- Remove jewelry and accessories in the dressing room.
- Make sure your gi is clean and neat and your belt is tied correctly. If you are a beginner, ask any senpai (senior student) for assistance.
- Mobile phones must be silenced in the dojo. (If a parent must take a voice call, please step outside.)
- As you enter and exit the dojo, bow towards the shinzen (center of dojo) and say a strong "Osu" (from “oshi shinobu,” meaning “try hard,” “be patient,” “persevere”).
- Say “Osu” and bow to respectfully greet your fellow students.
- Cleanup after class is part of training.
